What is Spermidine?

Spermidine powder is a natural polyamine compound, which is converted from putrescine by spermidine synthase. It is widely involved in life processes such as cell proliferation, autophagy and DNA stability.

Sources of spermidine:

1. Natural food

  • Plants: wheat germ, soybeans, mushrooms, durian.
  • Animal: bluefin tuna liver, natto, cheese.

2. Industrial preparation

  • Microbial fermentation: using gene-edited high-yield strains of Escherichia coli, the fermentation efficiency reaches 25 g/L.
  • Chemical synthesis: using putrescine and S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) as raw materials, produced by enzyme immobilization reaction, with a purity of ≥99.5%.

3. Human synthesis
Intestinal flora: About 30% of wheat germ spermidine is produced by the metabolism of intestinal Bacteroides and Lactobacillus.

Benefits:

1. Autophagy activation
It activates the AMPK/mTOR pathway and removes aging proteins in cells by simulating the effects of calorie restriction.

2. Anti-aging
It can extend the lifespan of yeast and nematodes by 20%-30%. Human cohort studies have shown that people who eat a high spermidine diet are 5-8 years younger in terms of physiological age.

3. Neuroprotection
It can promote neuronal synaptic plasticity and reduce the Aβ plaque density of Alzheimer's disease model mice by 40%.

Difference Between Spermidine and Spermidine Trihydrochloride:

Characteristic Spermidine Spermidine Trihydrochloride
Molecular formula C7H19N3 C₇H₁₉N₃·3HCl
Structural features Free alkaline polyamine containing 3 amino groups Spermidine bound to 3 hydrochloric acid molecules
Stability It needs to be stored at -20℃ away from light. It easily absorbs moisture and degrades at room temperature. Degradation rate <5% after 2 years of storage at room temperature, high temperature resistant
Solubility Slightly soluble in water, pH sensitive Highly water soluble, stable at pH 3-7

Bioavailability and usage scenarios:

1. Absorption efficiency

  • Spermidine: Oral bioavailability is only 12%-15%.
  • Spermidine trihydrochloride: Its absorption rate is 35%-40%.

2. Core applications

(1) Wheat germ extract spermidine:

  • Laboratory research: Added to cell culture medium to activate the autophagy pathway.
  • In vitro experiments: Combined with liposomes for enhanced gene transfection.

(2) Spermidine Trihydrochloride:

  • Anti-aging health products: 0.3-1.2 mg/kg daily dose.
  • Drug carrier: Targeting tumor cell autophagy.
