1. Anti-anxiety
Kava pepper contains a compound called kavalactone, which has several activities that aid relaxation.

 

Like other traditional neurosedatives (including valerian, passionflower, lavender, and lemon balm), kava also has an effect on the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) neurotransmitter.

 

GABA is the main control neurotransmitter in the central nervous system and slows down brain activity.

 

Although kavapiperolide binds weakly to GABA receptors, it appears to significantly strengthen its binding to other molecules. By strengthening the binding of these molecules, kavapiperolactone enhances GABA activity.
