Product Introduction
What Is Rhizoma Drynariae Extract?

Rhizoma drynariae extract is derived from the dried rhizome of *Drynaria fortunei* (Kunze) J. Sm., a plant in the Polypodiaceae family. Its primary active constituent is naringin; it also contains various other chemical substances, such as methyleugenol, protocatechuic acid, neoeriocitrin, dihydroflavonoid glycosides, cycloartenyl acetate, cyclopolypodenyl acetate, cyclolaudenyl acetate, and campesterol.

It exhibits a range of effects, including promoting cell proliferation and differentiation, combating osteoporosis, reducing inflammation, accelerating fracture healing, protecting cementoblasts and kidneys, preventing drug-induced hearing loss, and lowering blood lipids. It inhibits elastase activity and is utilized in both cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications to treat conditions such as skin aging, allergies, inflammation, and pigmentation.

Rhizoma Drynariae Extract benefits:

1. Lipid-lowering effects

Rhizoma drynariae extract can prevent the elevation of serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels in rabbits fed a high-fat diet and reduce levels that have already risen; it inhibits the formation of aortic atherosclerotic plaques and significantly lowers cholesterol levels in the liver and adrenal glands.

Rhizoma drynariae polysaccharide-acid salts also exhibit significant anti-hyperlipidemic and anti-atherosclerotic effects in rabbits. They facilitate the recovery of mitochondria and rough endoplasmic reticulum in hepatocytes and adrenal cells damaged by hypercholesterolemia, thereby promoting the conversion and excretion of intracellular cholesterol in these organs. Dihydroflavone glycosides also show a tendency to lower serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

2. Promoting fracture healing

Rhizoma drynariae extract promotes calcium absorption in bone and raises serum calcium and phosphorus levels, thereby facilitating fracture healing. In experiments involving juvenile rats with induced arthritis, treatment with a water decoction of *Rhizoma drynariae* improved chondrocyte function, delayed cellular degeneration, and reduced the incidence of osteoarthritic lesions.

3. Reducing antibiotic toxicity

When streptomycin (600 mg/kg) was administered via intraperitoneal injection to guinea pigs, all five animals in the group not receiving Rhizoma drynariae died; in contrast, only two out of seven animals in the group that received an oral decoction of Rhizoma drynariae prior to injection died. This indicates that Rhizoma drynariae can significantly reduce the mortality rate caused by streptomycin toxicity. Additionally, *Rhizoma drynariae* significantly reduces ototoxicity (ear damage) caused by kanamycin.

4. Cardiovascular Health

Dihydroflavonoid glycosides isolated from Rhizoma Drynariae exhibit a cardiotonic effect. When administered via the marginal ear vein of rabbits as a 0.5% solution, this effect persists for two hours, enhancing myocardial contractility and regularizing heart rhythm without significantly affecting heart rate or blood pressure; the cardiotonic action results from a direct effect on the myocardium rather than the sympathetic nervous system. Additionally, Rhizoma Drynariae enhances hypoxia tolerance in mice and inhibits platelet aggregation in rabbits.

5. Sedative and Analgesic Effects

The dihydroflavonoid glycosides in rhizoma drynariae extract possess significant sedative and analgesic properties.

6. Antibacterial Activity

It inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus in vitro.

Rhizoma Drynariae Extract uses:

1. Medical Applications

  • Orthopedics and Trauma Repair: It exhibits significant effects in promoting cell proliferation and differentiation, facilitating fracture healing, and combating osteoporosis.
  • Cardiovascular and Metabolic Regulation: Rhizoma drynariae extract effectively lowers serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels, inhibits the formation of aortic atherosclerotic plaques, and reduces cholesterol content in the liver and adrenal glands.
  • Topical Dermatological Treatment: In surgical and dermatological practice, it can be used topically to treat alopecia areata, vitiligo, and corns.

2. Cosmetic and Skincare Applications

  • Anti-aging and repair: Rhizoma drynariae extract exhibits significant inhibitory activity against elastase.
  • Improvement of skin conditions: It is frequently incorporated into cosmetics and pharmaceutical products to treat issues such as skin aging, allergies, inflammation, and pigmentation.

3. Improving bone health in poultry

In the poultry industry, total flavonoids from Rhizoma drynariae can significantly improve bone health in aging caged laying hens; they increase bone mineral density in the femur and tibia and improve bone microarchitecture without affecting egg quality.
